I am a social scientist working as a lecturer at the Academy for Tourism, a department of NHTV Breda University of Applied Sciences. I earned my Ph.D. in Leisure Studies from Penn State University in August 2010. I research tourists' emotions––how they feel on holiday, what makes them feel that way, and how tourism companies and destinations can optimize their experiences. I apply a variety of social, neuro, and wearable technologies to measure emotions.
My teaching experiences have engaged students in the study of leisure and human behavior. By offering students provoking discussions and challenging independent projects, I have helped them connect the state of the art in social science theory to the issues they will face in their own careers.
